Presented by Glen E. Swanson
Join former NASA historian Glen Swanson as he talks about the life and times of Grand Rapids native son Roger Bruce Chaffee who would have flown aboard America’s first manned Apollo mission but whose life was cut short along with that of his fellow crew mates by a tragic fire that broke out inside the spacecraft on January 27, 1967, during a routine launch-pad systems test.
The lessons learned from the fatal accident paved the way for the eventual success of the Apollo Program culminating in six missions that allowed twelve men to walk on the surface of the moon.
